Anthony Chau-Sang Wong

Veteran Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong is best known for his villainous supporting roles in popular action thrillers such as "Hard Boiled," "The Heroic Trio," and "Infernal Affairs." Wong, the son of a British father and a Chinese mother, had a difficult childhood marked by abandonment by his father and racism due to his mixed ethnicity. Wong enrolled in The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and trained for a career in acting through a program underwritten by the broadcast network Asia Television Limited. After an early start in several popular TV series, Wong transitioned to the big screen, impressing both Eastern and Western film fans with performances depicting rogue characters of the Hong Kong crime underworld. While supporting roles earned him recognition alongside such stars as Yun-Fat Chow and Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Wong made his breakthrough as a leading man with the 1993 thriller "The Untold Story"; his chilling depiction of a real-life serial killer earned him a Best Actor award at the 1994 Hong Kong Film Awards. Several more award-winning performances throughout the '90s and early '00s showcased Wong's growing versatility and range, and forays into directing (1995's "New Tenant") and starting his own punk-rock band ensured Wong's continued vitality in the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
